The following will integrate all types of baby certificates and share them with everyone!
What documents do I need if I want to bring my baby back to the mainland?
There are two combinations
A. Passport + ID card + Home Visit Permit
(Passport + ID card can completely replace the re-entry permit. It takes ten working days to process the passport.)
B. Hong Kong Return Permit + Home Return Permit (to be shared in the next article)
Very suitable for babies who are in a hurry to return to the mainland
It only takes 1 hour to get the certificate!

Important: Please get your passport + ID card first and then apply for your Home Visit Permit!!
????Passport + HKID Application
You can submit by mail or in person.
For mail submission, just prepare the documents and photos.
You will receive an SMS notification to collect the documents in about 2 weeks.
Required Documents & Photos:
- HKID Application Form (ROP3)
- HKSAR Passport Application Form (ID 842)
- Declaration Form for a Third-Party Countersignature (ID 614)
- Cheque for payment
- Copy of the baby’s birth certificate
- Copy of father’s/mother’s HKID
- Three photos of the baby
???? Form ID 614 must be signed by a third party with Hong Kong permanent residency.
(Can be a friend or colleague in Hong Kong.)
???? Passport is usually issued with 32 pages, costing HK$185.
???? First-time HKID application is free‼️
???? Don’t forget to make an online appointment to collect the documents.
⚠️ If the collection period has expired, you must bring the child in person and take a ticket at the counter to queue for collection.
????Home Return Permit
For example: Kwai Chung CTS Office
After making an online appointment, you need to first get a ticket at the enquiry counter before manual processing.
Prepare the required documents in advance.
CTS has very strict requirements for Home Return Permit photos. The photo must show the eyes, eyebrows, both ears, and a closed mouth.
When taking the Home Return Permit photo, a receipt slip must be provided.
For applicants under 18 (manual processing):
Must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
For ages 0–11, required documents and photos:
- Application form
- Qualified ID photo + receipt slip
- Original and copy of the applicant’s birth certificate
- Original and copy of the HKSAR passport and HKID of the father or mother
The form can be filled in on site.
Be sure to bring all required documents. Do not leave anything out.
Document collection methods:
Self-paid mailing service (Hong Kong only; old permit must be canceled immediately if renewing)
Self-service collection machine or dedicated counter collection
CTS service centers handle Home Return Permit applications, renewals of the “Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents,” applications for stay permit extensions, and document reissuance for mainland residents who have lost their documents in Hong Kong.
